The mind is the best tool we can have. It is far more powerful than most people imagine. It's a very simple, concept........really, yet it eludes so many people. The power of positive thinking can get us through sickness, can help us win a gold medal, and can give us the confidence we need to get that coveted job or to get our finances in order.
Positive thinking helped me through my diagnosis and treatment with breast cancer, and also helped me complete my first half marathon. Not only did I think I was going to get better, I KNEW I would. Just like I knew I would finish the race. There was never a doubt in my mind.
Thinking positive was combined with positive action. When doctors prescribed eight rounds of chemotherapy, I acted like someone who was already better. I continued working on a job that takes up more hours of my day than most people. I ran for political office. I also continued running.
I took advantage of my day of treatment in the hospital to catch up with old friends and visit with family that I see far too seldom. They would pick me up at home and take me to the hospital. We would laugh and have a great time! My running schedule did not change, although there were some days the mileage was slightly lower.
When my treatment was over, I had a party at my home; not only to celebrate life, but to thank those that were there for me from the bottom of my heart.
We are all capable using the power of our minds. It is not only a choice we can make, but one we sincerely have to believe in the outcome.
