My Inspiration
Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 1:43PM I have to tell you a story about my eldest daughter, Stephanie. Just one year ago she weighed 45 pounds more than she weighs today. Knowing she had to be kinder to her body, she started eating much healthier, and started exercising regularly. She did this against the odds, and through self motivation. Today she is a very disciplined and healthy young lady. She has maintained her weight for the past four months, and she has continued making exercise a priority in her daily routine. I am very proud of her!
The reason I am telling you this story is that she has become our fitness coach at home. Yesterday Stephanie, her two sisters and myself were all outside on our deck in the backyard with our yoga mats. With Stephanie leading the way, we all worked muscles until they were burning! She timed us, and wouldn't let us slack off. It was great! I was so happy to see that my youngest, Emma joined in. She is active in her own way. She dances, and loves to play soccer. But she has been less intent on the the work out side of things......until now.
Once we finished the strength exercises, we did a run.
It's so important to start exercising at a young age. The routine of a regular workout is best understood and maintained at a young age. Understanding the impact this has on your overall health is something every parent is capable of, not only talking about, but in practising. One day your children, friends that you inspire or loved ones will probably thank you for it.
There is another reason for committing to regular exercise. It can play a crucial role in preventing diseases such as cancer. It's a committment of as little as half an hour a day that can make all the difference in your life. It's the small price to pay for the health, happiness, longevity and quality of the years you spend on this earth.
For my girls, this is important. I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 45. This is still considered young, according to the medical specialists. My daughters will need to be mindful of this. They are already much further ahead than I was at their age. They have a great attitude, and they are certainly on the right track! They truly are my inspiration!
